I want to Join the Club and Slide, what do I do?

To slide with the club, there are four steps:

  • You need to be a member of the Adirondack Luge Club. The application is located here. Fill out the form and mail it and your membership dues to the address printed on the top of the form. We have a reduced dues structure for youth sliders and families. For every youth athlete, we offer a complimentary non-sliding membership for a parent or guardian.

  • You need to be a member of the United States Luge Association, also known as USA Luge. There are three forms necessary: the application, code of conduct, and a doctor’s medical examination form. Adults wishing to slide will need to join as “Class C” members, with youth athletes joining as “Class Y” members. Once you provide all three forms to USA Luge, they will issue you a Sliding Permit. You will need to present this in order to slide with the club. Plan on allowing 2 weeks for the sliding permit to be issued by USA Luge.

  • You will need to pay for your track fees directly to the Olympic Region Development Authority (ORDA), who own and operate the track. You can do this directly with the track office prior to 4pm on the day you slide, or via telephone in advance at 518-523-4436. You can either pay on a per-day basis, or purchase a season pass, depending on how many sessions you will be sliding at the track. You will also have to complete the track’s liability waiver.

  • Contact the club and sign up for the sliding sessions you are interested in attending. Once you mail your club application, you can go ahead and sign up for club sessions. You do not need to wait for your sliding permit to arrive in the mail to sign up. You just have to have the sliding permit by the time the session arrives, so don’t hesitate to sign up and reserve your slot. To sign up, consult the sliding schedule posted here on this web site and contact Jim Murphy at jim_murphy@shadywood.net.
